Amira Shaheen is serving as the OWSD-Palestine National Chapter Chair. In 2019, Dr. Shaheen was awarded the early career research award by the Organization for Women in Science in Developing countries and the Elsevier Foundation for her work on GBV. Amira is a member of the National Epidemiology Committee/ Palestine. She is holding a PhD in Epidemiology and Population Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Gender based violence is one of her research interests, she acted as a PI on two projects funded by the MRC and the NIHR/ UK, that aim at enhancing the primary health care response to GBV. She is interested as well in investigating the road traffic crashes, as a main killer for the youth population at global level. While doing her PhD Amira Was enrolled in several professional development trainings that aims at enhancing her capacity to conduct her own research, analyse data, and disseminate it in different forms. Dr. Shaheen is currently teaching at the An-Najah National university, where she gained teaching experience in epidemiology, research methods, ethics, nutrition, and health promotion.
