Dr. Amy Nordness, University of Nebraska Medical Center, USA

Amy Nordness, PhD, CCC-SLP, is the Associate Director, Director of Clinical Services, and Associate Professor of Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s Munroe-Meyer Institute. She received her bachelor’s degree from Marquette University and her master’s and doctorate degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Her research and clinical interests involve motor speech disorders and augmentative and alternative communication across the lifespan. She has published research articles and presented nationally and internationally on the topics of augmentative and alternative communication and patient-provider communication. Dr. Nordness has been involved in program development in pediatrics in acute care, acute rehabilitation, and outpatient levels of care as well as staff training and development. She serves as the primary investigator for the Medically Handicapped Children’s Program grant in Nebraska to bring specialized clinical care to children across the state of Nebraska. She also was primary investigator on a grant to bring pediatric feeding and swallowing training and services to rural areas in Nebraska. Dr. Nordness is passionate about identifying and training children and adults to use augmentative and alternative communication and assistive technology to communicate independently and access interaction with communication partners across multiple modalities. In her free time, she enjoys gardening, camping, and traveling with her family.
