Dr. Armando De Alba, University of Nebraska Medical Center, USA

Dr. Armando De Alba is an Assistant Dean of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC), College of Medicine, and an Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine. In 2013, he earned his Master’s degree in Public Health. From 2013 to 2014, he was a national health disparities research fellow for the Food & Drug Administration, Office of Minority Health.

Dr. De Alba has assisted in various projects as a lead coordinator, including providing communication resources from UNMC to the Hispanic community during the public health emergencies of Ebola in 2014 and, most recently, with COVID-19. Dr. De Alba was one of the first physicians to inform in Spanish through the national media about the novel coronavirus and how to prevent the spread of the disease. He has translated medical protocols in Spanish and culturally adapted several educational materials and community events for COVID-19. He also created a YouTube channel to post educational videos regarding the pandemic and how to take care of individuals with COVID-19 at home. Through these videos, he has engaged with audiences within the U.S., Latin-America, and Spain. Dr. De Alba assisted as a healthcare expert to the Governor of Nebraska during his first press conference in Spanish related to COVID-19. He is also a public health advisor for the Mexican embassy in the U.S. and the Mexican Consulate in Nebraska. He received in 2023 the national award of the “Physician of the Year” by the National Hispanic Medical Association.
