Cynthia L. Arfken, PhD, is professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences, Wayne State University in Detroit Michigan (USA). Her training includes an undergraduate degree in economics from Kalamazoo College (Michigan), a doctorate in chronic disease epidemiology from Yale University (Connecticut) and a fellowship in alcohol research at University of California, Berkeley (California). Her expertise is alcohol and drug use, especially emerging trends, complementing her collaborative research in mental health services. She has published over 200 articles and book chapters, and is on the editorial board of Academic Psychiatry, Journal of Clinical Psychopharmacology, Journal of Behavioral Health Services & Research, and the Journal of Muslim Mental Health.
