Dr. Iqbal Ahmad

Dr. Iqbal Ahmad, University of Nebraska Medical Center, USA

Dr. Ahmad is Associate Dean and Director of Postdoctoral Education and Research at University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC). Dr. Ahmad oversees the excellence in training of young scientists and their timely progression to independent careers. He studied molecular basis of growth hormone abnormality in obesity as a graduate student at North Eastern Ohio College of Medicine. He received his postdoctoral training at Yale University College of Medicine in neuroscience where he studied the regulation of neural development and team-taught neuroscience to medical students. At UNMC,  his lab, supported by grants from National Institute of Health (NIH) and private foundations, studies stem cell regulation and regenerative medicine to understand and treat retinal degeneration that leads to blindness in diseases like glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, and retinitis pigmentosa. Dr. Ahmad has served as a member of various NIH study sections and currently is one of the board of directors of Nebraska Cures, a non-profit organization, which promotes, supports and advocates for scientific research and education to advance the quality of life and economy.
