Melonie Welsh, University of Nebraska Medical Center, USA

Melonie S Welsh is the Robert F. and Myrna L. Krohn Professor and Director of Community Engagement at UNMC’s Munroe-Meyer Institute (MMI). An accomplished professional with 40 years experience in the Omaha medical and philanthropic communities, her deep and passionate commitment to individuals with developmental disabilities and complex health care needs has been demonstrated through her work as a cytotechnologist, genetic counselor, major gift officer and active board member.
As Director of Community Engagement at MMI at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) she creates synergies between providers, agencies, and stakeholders to build ongoing, permanent relationships with MMI. These relationships result in the mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge and resources as well as partnerships and reciprocity, creating a collective vision to empower individuals with disabilities.
Prior to her current role, she helped develop the first comprehensive antenatal screening and counseling program in Nebraska. Additionally, she was the first documented fetal care coordinator in the nation for a progressive perinatology and surgical team that performed cutting-edge fetal surgery at Pennsylvania Hospital. She fostered strong relationships with constituents across the country to communicate the priorities of UNMC while closing 7 figure gifts. Her continued work on public health initiatives, advancing diversity, inclusion and belonging, inclusive health, and mentorship exemplify her commitment to empowering others to amplify their own communication, connection, and confidence to have transformational impact.
Melonie obtained her undergraduate degree from Doane University and her graduate degree from the University of Nebraska.
Melonie enjoys family, fitness, travel and two energetic giant schnauzers.
