Dr. Wesley Zeger, University of Nebraska Medical Center, USA

Dr. Zeger graduated from Darnall Army Community Hospital’s Emergency Medicine Residency Program. He provided care to active duty soldiers, their families, and retired beneficiaries while on active duty at Madigan Army Medical Center. Since arriving at UNMC, he has developed an operations focus. He has been the medical director for the department’s Advanced Practice Providers and Observation Unit. He is currently the medical director for the emergency room and a certified physician builder for EPIC at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE

Dr. Zeger was promoted to Professor in 2021 and is currently the Executive Vice-Chair for the Department of Emergency Medicine at UNMC. He has been on NIH grants integrating novel ways to provide psychiatric care during emergency department visits as well co-investigator for a grant which evaluated mental duress during the COVID-19 pandemic. He was part of the development team for the 1-Check App utilized by the university to monitor COVID symptoms and was also successfully commercialized. He is also one of the inventors of a novel self-collection system for respiratory pathogens which was facilitated as a primary investigator for an internal COVID-19 rapid response grant. This device has been successfully commercialized. Dr. Zeger is an Oral Board Examiner for the American Board of Emergency Medicine and is chair of the credentials committee at Nebraska Medicine.
