Dr. Zakaria Belrhiti, Mohammed VI University of Sciences and Health, Morocco

Assistant Professor in Health Systems and Management at the International School Mohammed VI of Public Health, Mohammed VI University of Sciences and Health & Mohammed VI Center for Research and Innovation, Rabat, Morocco.  Head of the Leadership and Behavioral sciences department and team lead of evidence synthesis, knowledge translation initiatives (team lead of a knowledge center in DR Congo, National School of Public health and knowledge translation in health system governance and leadership with interests in equitable and access to care for vulnerable populations including migrants, Mohammed VI University of Sciences and Health (UM6SS), Casablanca).

I authored 55 peer reviewed research articles and book chapters in different themes such as complex and system leadership development, public service heroism and many international collaborative scoping reviews in diverse public health topics ( healthcare territorial networks (Health policy and planning), migrant access to sexual and reproductive health (BMJ global health), realist Evaluation and participatory approach (Evaluation), Public service heroisms (Encyclopedia of heroism), System leadership in Selected African countries published at the  Elgar Edgar Publishing handbook of leadership  in health care among others.

I hold a PhD (Public Health & medical sciences) delivered by the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), and the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp, Belgium. My PhD thesis focused on complexity leadership in health In my thesis I used the Realist Evaluation approach a theory driven approaches to unravel the role of leadership on the motivation of health workers in Moroccan Hospitals: A Realist Evaluation.

I also hold a Doctorate in Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy in Rabat (2007), a master’s in public health and a master’s in public management.  I have strong managerial experience as a former Chief executive hospital of Es-Smara Provincial Hospital (2008-2011) and promotor of a multitude of international grants (EU funded projects RIPSEC evidence synthesis project in DRC, Evaluation of Knowledge translation platforms in the EMRO region and the development of equitable access to reproductive health for migrants and for Moroccan deprived populations in AL Haouz, Marakech with the IDRC funding.
